Borrow pence or Heg Pence – Ancient, faceless coins – possibly from shipwrecks.
Geshank – A knife or similar object, left as a malicious gift, that enslaves if touched. (Derived from “Geschenk,” or present.)
Hafferman – A man who lurks in the Devil’s Hollow woods carrying a myrtlewood cudgel.
Krampus – Half-goat, half-human creature of traditional folklore.
Murder Cake – A cake that poisons the just, but nourishes the wicked.
Oktoberfest – A beer drinking festival held in Cape Misfortune’s main town, Valkyrie.
Untote – An undead person.
Walpurgisnacht – The night of 30 April, so called because it is the eve of the feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Francia. In Cape Misfortune a man wearing a Krampus costume heads up a night-time procession of townspeople through Valkyrie.
Weasel – A type of local fog that people go missing in.
